چکیده

We discuss the characteristic features of high performance transaction processing and we domonstrate, how the complexity of load balancing may be conquered by the appropriate design of a workload model and a generic model for load-balancing algorithms.

Load Balancing in High-performance Distributed Db/dc-systems: Modeling, Analysis and Clustering of Workload for Data-aanity Based Load Distribution

To exploit data-aanity, or not to exploit data-aanity, that is the question. Whether it is preferable to deal with the complexity of data reference behaviour of real-world workload, or to ignore the lots of delays in response time, and by restricting oneself to simple solutions, delete them from appearances. The above question indicates the answer, though. Despite of the complexity of real-life...

A Framework for workload allocation in distributed transaction processing systems

Ever-increasing demands for high transaction rates, limitations of high-end processors, high availability, and modular growth considerations are all driving forces toward distributed architectures for transaction processing. However, a prerequisite to taking advantage of the capacity of a distributed transaction processing system is an effective strategy for workload allocation. The distributio...

Guardian 90: A Distributed Operating System Optimized Simultaneously for High-Performance OLTP, Parallelized Batch/Query and Mixed Workloads

The Tandem NonStop is a loosely-coupled multi-computer system managed by Guardian 90, a message-based distributed operating system designed to provide an environment for online transaction processing. One of the benefits of a loosely-coupled architecture is its inherently distributed character. A distributed architecture allows many components to be applied scalably in parallel to a large data-...

Load Balancing Pragmatics

We examine the main practical issues concerning load balancing in distributed systems. Two complementary orientations are examined: an application oriented approach for High Performance Transaction Processing, and a low level process oriented approach.
